I start with the mechanism, user and context before choosing the interface.

The easiest way to make a health app look more impressive is often the fastest way to make it less responsible. With DIGESTIA, I deliberately stopped short of diagnosis, treatment advice and individualized predictions.
A beginner can communicate successfully and still make mistakes. That sounds obvious, but many automated language tools behave as if every article, preposition or word order error deserves the same penalty.
The classic coagulation cascade is useful, but it becomes a bad teaching tool when students are asked to treat it as if it were the whole physiology of hemostasis.
